Mordor Hike!!!!

So we woke up at 5am to hike the Tongariro Crossing.  It's known to be the best hike in New Zealand and it definitely didn't disappoint.  The hike is 19.4 kilometers, so a little more than 12 miles.  There was crazy fog, steep stairs, sliding rocks, and a lot of switch backs but the view made up for every obstacle.  Mt.Doom kept popping through the clouds, the blue lakes were super blue, and the active volcanic zone was surreal!!  This wasn't the longest hike I've ever done, or even the hardest but it was definitely the most beautiful.  About 15 of us all hiked together.  I've never hiked with a group before but it was a lot of fun!  We stopped for lots of selfies and lunch and of course second lunch.  We joked about Lord of the Rings and tried to solve riddles during the less exciting walk down the mountain.  It was a really fun hike with a really great group of people!!
